ABOUT CTSJ
Civic Tech Saint John is a volunteer-led civic tech group working together to use technology for social good. We explore how simple, collaborative tech projects and one-time digital literacy efforts can improve local lives—especially for those facing barriers to digital access.
They are responsive, creative, supportive, and adaptable—with the understanding that their capacity is shaped and reshaped by the time and energy of whoever is currently involved. They organize ad hoc events, pilot small-scale projects, and offer occasional digital skill-building sessions in a safe and supportive space based on volunteer interest and availability. Through their projects, they help the community step closer to digital equity by improving device access, internet availability, and digital literacy.

WHAT CIVIC TECH DOES
- Offer one-time or short-term digital literacy sessions when volunteers are available
- Host workshops and sessions with guest speakers and subject matter experts to promote knowledge-sharing and to inspire the community on tech-related topics
- Refurbish and donate devices when we have storage and capacity
- Organize weekly hack nights during the school year
- Experiment with civic tech projects that are achievable in the short term
- Share tools, knowledge, and connections with other community groups on an informal basis
- Create a community where technology enthusiasts, newcomers and old comers alike can come together, connect and improve their sense of belonging.
